Mike McInally Hockey Festival 2026

You are invited to send a Tournament Team at some or all age-groups to the Scottish Thistles friendly International Tournament to be held 2 -5 July 2026. The competition is intended as a Spirit of Masters event and Festival of Hockey. This event has proved extremely popular over the years and hopefully we will be able to accommodate everyone who wishes to attend. This will be on a ‘first come’ basis, however.

Belgium Masters Five Nations Women's Hockey

Belgian Old Panthers have scored again, and even more successfully! The inaugural tournament hosted by Old Panthers in 2025 as a Four Nations hockey tournament was the first ever women’s only Grand Masters hockey tournament. Following on from this, BOP held a follow-up tournament in 2026, again at the Royal Hockey Club Namurois, Namur, Belgium and included Five Nations

Spain celebrates Over 80 hockey

On 9th November 2006 WGMA became the first Masters body to be recognized by FIH and to celebrate the Association’s 19th birthday WGMA Board member and former Spanish Olympic player Pepe Borrell suggested that Spain should be introduced to Over 80 Grand Masters hockey.

LX Club 30th Anniversary Festival 2025

From June 29 to 6 July 2025 in Nottingham another major WGMA supported Grand Masters festival will take place. Expressions of interest welcome.

What is WGMA?

The World Grand Masters Association was formed in 2002 as a result of a fast-growing interest in Grand Masters (60+) hockey. The Association was recognised in 2006 by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) as the governing body responsible for the management and regulation of international Grand Masters hockey worldwide. When FIH decided that there should be a single organisation to govern both Masters and Grand Masters hockey WGMA supported and was instrumental in the formation of World Masters Hockey (WMH) which was launched in 2019. WGMA now continues as a members’ club for all individuals and organisations involved in promoting and managing Grand Masters hockey worldwide for both men and women.

WGMA recognizes the fact that players Over 60 need competitive hockey among people of their own age combined with social interaction off the field.

A Short History of WGMA

A Short History Over 60s (Grand Masters) hockey started in the Netherlands back in 1988 and in 1989 when the NHC De Zestigplussers was founded by Jan ten Hoopen and his hockey friends. In the early 1990s, one or two ‘international’ matches were played on an informal basis between the Netherlands, Belgium and France as a result of old friendships through hockey.
